Plural Nouns

Add a "s" to the end of the noun to make it plural.

  • The cars are fast.
  • The toys are new.
  • The phones are broken.
Singular: Car, Toy, Phone

Plural: Cars, Toys, Phones

1. When the noun ends in S, SH, CH, X or Z*, we add -ES to the noun.
  • Kisses - She gives me kisses.
  • Wishes - I have many wishes.
  • Watches - He watches the news everyday.
  • Foxes - The foxes play with each other.
  • Quizzes - I don't like to take quizzes.
* With words that end in Z sometimes we add an extra Z to the plural form of the word (such as with the plural of quiz).

2. For plural nouns ending in f or fe,  remove the f or fe and add  -ves
  • Life - Lives
  • Wolf - wolves
  • Leaf - Leaves
  • Knife - Knives
3. For consonants ending in -y,  remove the -y and add -ies
  • City - cities
  • Baby - babies
  • Party - parties
  • Story - stories
4. For regular nouns, just add a -s
  • Car - cars
  • Book - books
  • Dog - dogs
  • Apple - apples
5. For nouns ending in -o, just add -es
  • Hero - heroes
  • Potato - potatoes
  • Tomato - tomatoes
  • Echo - echoes
