Their vs. They're vs. There

These words have the same pronunciation when they are spoken, Their, They're, and There in English. 

There

There is used to express the location of something not near you. 

Examples:

  • That is a nice car over there.
  • I will sleep at home when I arrive there.
  • You will be very tired when you get there.

There is also used to show that something exist. Use the form:

Examples: 

  • There is a beach near my house.
  • There is a store near you.
  • There are donuts to eat.

Their

Their is used to show possession that something belongs to someone. Their is always placed before the object.

Examples:

  • Their movie tickets are on the table.
  • All of their books are brand new.
  • The snakes protected their eggs with care.  

They're

They're is a contraction of "they are".  

Examples:

  • They're very nice people. 
  • They're playing at the park.
  • They're very hungry.
