We use "there is" and "there are" to show that something exist.

  • There is a pencil.
  • There are ten fruits.
There is  ( Singular )
  • There is a toy over there.
  • There is a store down the street.
  • There is a book on the table.
There are ( Plural )
  • There are many trees.
  • There are ten apples.
  • There are many cars.
Contractions
The contraction of "there is" is there's.
  • There's more juice inside the cup.
  • There's more food on the table.
You cannot contract there are.
  • There are five dogs.
  • There are many bugs.
Negative form
The negative is formed by placing the "no" after is or are.
  • There are no bananas to eat.
  • There is no water to drink.
