Use the plural form:

  • These are wild animals.
2. Use this when something is far away from you.

Use singular form:

That is + rest of the sentence
  • That is a great book.
  • That is a black jacket.
  • That is a nice shirt.
Use the plural form:

Those are + rest of the sentence
  • Those are cool shoes.
  • Those are dirty clothes.
  • Those are beautiful trees.
